Together we are improving distribution of life-saving drugs in Rwanda
Our mission: to partner with the people and leaders of Rwanda to build new pharmacies and strengthen the country’s drug distribution system in order to get treatment to those suffering from HIV, malaria and other epidemic diseases
Rwanda is among the world’s least developed countries, ranking 158 of 177 in the United Nations
Less than 20% of HIV infected Rwandans receive anti-retroviral treatment (ARV). Fewer than 10% of infected women receive ARV treatment to reduce mother-to-child transmission.*
Prescription for Hope has been augmenting the Rwandan drug distribution infrastructure since 2005, and has filled over 23,000 prescriptions
Our goal is to enhance care by understanding this developing country’s current pharmacy dispensing capacity and applying successful pharmacy designs, strategies and techniques from the United States. By understanding how pharmacy care is delivered in the context of the local culture and available infrastructure, Prescription for Hope (PFH) is funding and building dispensing pharmacies to get treatment to the people who need it most.
Prescription For Hope is providing the following pharmacy advancement services for developing countries like Rwanda:
- Evaluate existing resources such as land, the power grid, software and hardware infrastructure, security, building materials, pharmacy supplies, available pharmacy personnel
- Fund and equip modern, free-standing pharmacies staffed by professional local pharmacists
- Devise culturally acceptable ways to teach patients how take their medications and stay adherent to drug regimens.

New partnership expands pharmacy development plans!
PFH has partnered with a Rwandan-based non-government organization to provide access to life-saving medications to nearly 10,000 patients. Generous donors have already provided funding for this ambitious project, but we still need additional financial support. To help, please visit our DONATE HERE PAGE to learn more.
